Square nose moldings are generally used in conjunction with floating hardwood floors. They are ideal for concealing the expansion space when the floor runs up to a vertical object that cannot be framed by wall base or quarter round. Examples where the square nose is a good choice include around a fireplace hearth or sliding glass door.
